I think the words that a child starts using is highly influenced by their environment. Here’s some of the more unusual phrases:

  • “smelly” — when I pick her up and I haven’t rinsed with mouthwash.
  • “dada’s working” and “dada’s busy” – during the couple of weeks when I would come home and shut myself in the office and continue working.
  • “dada sit” or “dada off” — when she wants me to sit next to her or when she wants me to get out of the chair.
  • “look at me, look at me!” – she puts her arms up and says that.
  • “spicy” – when we eat out sometimes.
  • “lola grande sleeping bye bye” — At her great grandmother’s funeral.
  • “chocolosalay salay salay!” — I have no idea what that means. She might be asking for chocolate, but she also seems to say it when she’s not asking for food.

Trigger words

When we were going to get ice cream, she kept saying “ice cream” and even though were were about 2 minutes away, when I said, “soon”, she broke out into tears and didn’t stop crying. So next time, I won’t say “soon”.
